Detroit had the winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs using 3 hits. Jim Edmonds got things going when he cracked a solo homerun (his 25th of the season). Marcus Giles came to the plate and delivered a single. Giles was safe on a stolen base. Eric Munson was up next and he bombed a two-run dinger (his 5th of the season) making Detroit victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Detroit finished with 10 hits in the victory. Julian Tavarez(2-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Damaso Marte(3-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. Mike Wilson was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, Rob Danecker, feels right now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!'
